Summary

Enjoyable, but abit more dragged out than others in the series:)

Another fun read in the Rokesby series。 Julia Quinn has created another family of relatable characters who are likable, yet flawed。 There’s always some kind of crazy situation or calamity that makes these books highly entertaining。 Bring on #3!

I think think this is my favourite Julia Quinn book yet。 I started with the Bridgerton series, which I mostly liked, but this series is so much better。 I find the characters more interesting and the story lines more exciting。 I think everyone can agree that the ending was fantastic。 And I love how the endings of the books drop a little hint about the next book to draw you into reading it。

3。5 stars rounded up。 Narration 5 stars because Roslyn Landor。 Spinoff of The Bridgerton family-historical romance。 Fake marriage that the groom thinks is real due to brain injury and amnesia。 It hasn’t been that long since I read another historical romance with the same premise so it was kind of hard to give this a full 4 stars。 I do really enjoy this author。 Recommended to adult historical romance readers。

Definitely started out better than the first book in the series。 Had a lot of promise and then I couldn't believe these two characters kept lying to each other。 Not really tied to the first novel and definitely don't get much interaction with the Rokesbys until the epilogue。 Again, great listening experience。 Definitely started out better than the first book in the series。 Had a lot of promise and then I couldn't believe these two characters kept lying to each other。 Not really tied to the first novel and definitely don't get much interaction with the Rokesbys until the epilogue。 Again, great listening experience。 。。。more

I have read most, if not all, of the Bridgerton books。 This one is advertised as a Bridgertons Prequel, but that family doesn't really participate in the story。 I had some problems - beginning with the title。 Cecilia Harcourt is not really a girl。 Not at the age of 22 in 1779。 And she doesn't have a make-believe husband。 She has a make-believe marriage。 The tale begins in Derbyshire, England。 Cecilia's father has recently died。 Her only close relative is her brother and he is out of the country。 I have read most, if not all, of the Bridgerton books。 This one is advertised as a Bridgertons Prequel, but that family doesn't really participate in the story。 I had some problems - beginning with the title。 Cecilia Harcourt is not really a girl。 Not at the age of 22 in 1779。 And she doesn't have a make-believe husband。 She has a make-believe marriage。 The tale begins in Derbyshire, England。 Cecilia's father has recently died。 Her only close relative is her brother and he is out of the country。 As a captain in the English army, Thomas has been stationed in the colonies。 When Cecilia receives a letter advising her that her brother has been wounded, she impetuously boards a ship to New York to search for him。 After she lands, she cannot locate anyone who can tell her where her brother could be found。 But she does locate his best friend。 Captain Edward Rokesby has also been wounded and lies unconscious in a makeshift military hospital。 Cecilia decides that she will care for Edward。 In order to gain access to him, she tells the commanding officer that she is Edward's wife。 When Edward finally wakes up, he has no memory of the previous three months and is surprised to learn that he is now married。 But our heroine decides to continue the charade once she realizes that she is more likely to get results as the wife of the son of an earl。 This is one of those books where you just want to confront the characters and tell them to quit lying to each other。 But then the book wouldn't take 374 pages to achieve a happy ending。 This is not one of Julia Quinn's best efforts。 。。。more

I'm all on board with the fake-married trope when both parties know they're fake married。 But the fact that one member didn't know it was a fake marriage until like the 85% mark made everything else very uncomfy。 I'm all on board with the fake-married trope when both parties know they're fake married。 But the fact that one member didn't know it was a fake marriage until like the 85% mark made everything else very uncomfy。 。。。more
